This might be a long stretch, but we have noticed lately that Sunny Rose understands a lot of what we say.....let me re-phrase.....Sunny Rose understands all of what we say and a whole lot more of what we DON'T say than we realize......but her attempts to pronounce things are sketchy. We have also noticed that autistic children often do not look at faces of people who are speaking, and when Sunny actually does look at a face, she settles almost exclusively on the eyes. It seems that maybe, just maybe, she has trouble with speech because she sees the mouth moving, and she hears the sounds, but she does not connect specific movements with specific sounds. Makes sense anyway. I have not yet chanced upon the time to further look into any research done on this. But we are trying to teach ehr to speak from this viewpoint, for right now, and we will see how it goes!
